Get Your Lodge Ready

Before you worry about campaigns, content or social media, make sure people can find accurate information about your Lodge and that somebody can maintain it.

The Goal

When you finish this step, your Lodge should have a basic public presence that is accurate, accessible and not dependent on a single Brother remembering a password.

1. Your Website

Your website is the permanent home for information about your Lodge. It does not need to be elaborate. It does need to be current and useful.

  • At minimum, include: About the Lodge, contact information, upcoming events and charitable/community work.
  • Make contact easy: Use a visible email address, form or other method that a visitor can understand immediately.
  • Check the basics: Correct address, meeting information, current officers or contacts where appropriate, working links and recent activity.
  • Keep it alive: A simple current site is better than an elaborate site that looks abandoned.

2. Your Social Media Accounts

Choose the platforms that people in your community actually use. You do not need to be everywhere. It is better to maintain one or two accounts well than five accounts badly.

  • Use the same Lodge name, logo and basic description across platforms.
  • Use consistent usernames when possible so the Lodge is easy to recognize.
  • Make sure the profile includes the Lodge location, website and a working contact method.
  • If an account exists but nobody can access it, treat that as a problem to solve before creating another one.

3. Your Google Business Profile

A Lodge should be easy to find when someone searches its name, “Masonic Lodge near me,” or looks at the area in Google Maps. Claim or create the Lodge listing, verify the address and keep the public details accurate.

4. Your Official Lodge Email

Use an official Lodge email address for public questions, event inquiries and account ownership where practical. Avoid building the entire communications system around one person’s private email account.

5. Audit Freshness

Walk through the Lodge’s website, social pages and public listings as if you know nothing about the organization. Ask:

  • Does this look active?
  • Is the information correct today?
  • Can I tell where the Lodge is?
  • Can I tell what the Lodge does?
  • Can I find a real way to contact someone?
  • Do upcoming events look upcoming rather than two years old?

6. Decide Who Owns What

You do not need a marketing committee of twelve. You do need clarity.

DO NOT SKIP THE BACKUP
At least one additional Brother should know where critical accounts live and how access can be recovered. The Lodge should not lose its website or social accounts because one volunteer moves, resigns or becomes unavailable.

Ready to Move On?

If the basics exist, the information is current and at least two people can recover the important accounts, your foundation is good enough. Do not hold up the entire project chasing perfection.

NEXT STEP
Continue to Define Your Lodge. Before you decide what to post, decide what you want people to understand about you.
