About the Project
A free Masonic public-relations and communications resource built to help local Lodges look as alive to the outside world as they are on the inside.
Why Freemason Marketing Exists
Freemasonry is an ancient tradition operating in a modern information environment. People expect to be able to find basic information online, understand what an organization does and see evidence that it is active. Too many Lodges have good ritual, good people, meaningful charity and rich local history that are nearly invisible outside the building.
The Freemason Marketing Project exists to help close that gap.
What This Is
- A free public-relations, community-outreach and communications resource.
- A beginner-friendly guide for Lodges with little or no marketing experience.
- A collection of practical tools, examples, presentations and outside resources.
- A way to help Lodges communicate with members and the wider community using modern channels.
- A project designed to be useful to a Lodge anywhere, with local and jurisdictional rules taking precedence.
What This Is Not
- A paid course.
- An agency sales pitch.
- A requirement to use every social network or tool.
- A substitute for your Grand Lodge’s rules, policies or guidance.
- A system for pressuring or soliciting people into membership.
The Philosophy
Keep it simple, authentic and consistent. You do not need an executive-level website, a professional video studio or daily social posts. You need accurate information, a clear Lodge story, a few useful channels and people willing to keep them alive.
Modern public relations is one of the working tools available to a Lodge. Used well, it helps the public see the charitable work, fellowship, education, history and community involvement that already exist.
Built From Lodge Experience
The project was created by Matt Johnson, Past Master of Blendon Lodge #339 in Westerville, Ohio, and grew from the practical work of maintaining Lodge websites, social media, event promotion, public relations and community outreach. Blendon 339 has served as the real-world laboratory behind many of the examples and resources on this site.
Share and Contribute
This resource improves when Brothers share what works. If your Lodge, district, Grand Lodge or Masonic body has a useful public-relations guide, template, article, graphic, presentation or case study, consider contributing it so another Lodge does not have to reinvent the wheel.
Please share FreemasonMarketing.com with Lodges and Masonic bodies that can use it. The goal is simple: help the fraternity communicate better, one local Lodge at a time.
