You don’t need a professional photographer or the most expensive camera but you do need to take imagery seriously. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing beautifully.
I’ve often seen a Lodge’s social media page or website look stunning all around… Except for the picture(s) of their building and most especially the meeting hall. Taken in haste, on a dark and gloomy day, from a 10 year old phone and reused over the past decade.
These can look more ominous than inviting; certainly not awe inspiring and doesn’t put your Lodge in the best perspective.
Consider This: Do you want to inspire or intimidate?
That headline shot of your building or Lodge room can make a great impression on the public. You need bright shots, not gloomy ones. If inside open the window shades, turn on all lamps and bring in more if it’s not enough – you only need one good shot.
If outside take shots of your building at the peak sunlight time of day with a nice blue sky. Try it again at different times of the year to see what looks best with how shadows look based on the sun’s trajectory. If you have a flag pole, try it on a good and windy day for that dramatic effect.
Lodge Virtual Reality Tours
What if you could create actual virtual reality (yes, VR!) photo tours of your Lodge? You can see an example of this from Blendon 339’s Facebook virtual tour photo album.
It’s easier than you think and can be done in about 5 minutes. For a quick method that anyone with a smartphone can do, download the free Google Cardboard app and review the steps outlined here. Once completed just upload to something like Facebook!
